Further to the President’s address on 24 April 2020, the Department of Home Affairs has announced the additional services it shall be rendering effective 1 May 2020.
You may recall that prior to this announcement and as reflected in Table 1 of the Regulations to the Disaster Management Act of 2002 dated 29 April 2020, the services rendered by the Department were the issuing of birth and death certificates and replacement of identity documents.
The Department will now render “critical functions” in a phased manner as outlined in the circular and while we are not exactly certain how soon these officials will be office, it appears as though the processing of pending applications shall now commence with limited staff in office since the adjudication of applications cannot be done remotely. We however do not know if all pending applications will be processed or if they are only processing permanent residence applications, or certain categories of visa applications (such as critical work visas or medical treatment visas etc). We have no further directions at this point in time in relation to the collection of outcomes but will update you as soon as we receive clarity.
Please note that VFS does not fall under the current Level 4 restrictions and currently has no tentative date of reopening. As soon as we understand when applications will be accepted, we will notify you accordingly.
We hope that you and your family remain well, safe and sane.
