Regulations as Revised by the Minister of Home Affairs on 3 July 2020.
Foreign expatriates (other than those from visa exempt countries and/or wishing to enter for a short-term (for work/business or holiday purposes) abroad on valid temporary resident visas may now apply to the Minister of Home Affairs for permission to enter South Africa provided that they are able to demonstrate “exceptional circumstances” warranting such request.
The application must include a copy of the applicant’s passport and temporary residence visa and submitted to email@example.com for processing. The application is adjudicated by a joint multi-departmental committee in a meeting which is held weekly and subject to the Minister of Home Affairs’ approval.
Successful applicants will be subject to prescribed screening and quarantine measures once entering South Africa. To view the amended Regulations click here
- We are instructed that adjudicators have returned on a skeleton staff and rotational basis to process pending temporary residence visa applications;
- The processing of permanent residence applications is not deemed “essential” at this point in time but will be dealt with at the discretion of the DHA;
- The amnesty period granted to foreigners is extended until 31 October 2020;
- Visa or permit applications may still not be submitted at this point in time. Please see Regulation 17E in the attached Regulations for the services offered by the DHA.
