SABC Newsroom: new visa regulations for New Zealand travellers

February 13, 2017

There are new visa regulations for New Zealand travellers, says Stefanie de Saude, immigration specialist and founder of De Saude Law, on SABC Newsroom on DSTV.

There were reports of widespread confusion recently, when new visa requirements came into effect for all South Africans travelling to New Zealand and all New Zealanders travelling to South Africa. In this SABC TV interview, immigration and Citizenship Law specialist Stefanie de Saude clarifies matters.

All South Africans travelling to New Zealand, and all New Zealanders travelling to South Africa, must now apply for the appropriate visas – bringing to an end a 10-year visa-free travel agreement between the two countries.

There are different kinds of visas available, depending on the reasons for travel – whether it be work, study or tourism, or short or long-term periods. The challenges are in applying for those visas, says Stefanie de Saude, which is where a specialist immigration law firm like De Saude Attorneys comes in.

“The law is very clear but the application of the law is not always as straightforward as it should be and the processing times are usually an issue because people don’t realise they need to apply timeously.”
